Eva Mendes posed naked for PETA after she realized she could never wear her dog.

The "Hitch" star agreed to strip for the animal rights charity's "Fur? I'd Rather Go Naked" campaign after she and boyfriend Peruvian filmmaker George Gargurevich adopted Hugo, a 70lb Belgian Malinois guard dog.

Eva said, "I got him for safety reasons for my house. It's like we got this fierce dog who was supposed to be manning the house but that has become him in bed with us and cuddling. I really just started to think, 'Oh my god, I would never wear Hugo.'"

The 33-year-old Latino beauty was first contacted by PETA in 2003 after she borrowed a fur coat to wear to the New York winter premiere of her film "Stuck On You".

She said, "I was so floored by what they told me I said to them, 'I promise I will never do it again.'"

Eva admits it will be strange to see her own bare behind on giant billboards around the world, but is not embarrassed by them.

She said, "I'm not going to lie. It will probably be weird when I see it. It's going to be like, 'Oh, wow, there it is.' It's very tasteful. It's all in fun. It's got a flirtatious, fun spirit about it. It's not like come hither or anything like that."

"I'm not trying change people's minds or tell them what I think is right. I just want people to think about it, question it. It's about awareness."
