Whitney Houston is fighting her stepmom with a lawsuit of her own. The singer is countersuing her dad's widow, Barbara Houston, for $1.6 million.

Whitney is responding to the lawsuit Barbara filed last year, wherein the stepmother claimed the singer kept the $1 million insurance payout after her father died in 2003. Barbara alleged that $723,000 was supposed to be hers, but Whitney held on to the entire sum.

Rihanna's mentor has begged people to stop discussing the singer's private life. Producer Evan Rogers, who discovered the Barbados-born beauty, insists Rihanna - whose boyfriend Chris Brown has been charged with felony assault and making criminal threats after allegedly assaulting her - is confused by the conflicting advice she has been given.

He said: "I think that everyone has good intentions and means well, but it turns up the heat in terms of it seeming like the whole world is telling her what to do.

Rihanna is to star in a remake of "The Bodyguard." The 21-year-old pop star - whose boyfriend Chris Brown has been charged with felony assault and making criminal threats following his alleged assault on her - has reportedly been looking at various scripts in New York, including a remake of the hit 90s film which starred Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner.

A source told the New York Daily News newspaper: "Before the situation with Chris, Rihanna was getting a lot of scripts. She has been wanting to do movies for a while now."

Whitney Houston has urged Rihanna not to take Chris Brown back. The legendary singer reportedly warned Rihanna to cut all ties with Chris after the "Run It" star was arrested for allegedly beating her up.

She said: "I don't really go out much. If I wasn't a celebrity then I don't know how I would feel, but it's not that much fun for me - it feels like I'm in a cage and everyone is watching."
