Ever since he was a little boy, Val Kilmer's birthday had an interesting twist to it - something only his parents would do.
The actor was born on New Year's Eve, December 31. For his birthday every year, instead of getting two gifts, he would get only one to celebrate Christmas and his special day. This made him quite sad as a child and his parents even sadder.
To make sure Val got everything he wanted, his parents came up with the clever idea to celebrate his birthday half way through the year, so he would get presents both on Christmas day and a few months down the line.
For his birthday celebration they chose July 4 and Val admits he is still moved by what his parents did for him.
In an interview with StarPulse explained, "My birthday is on New Year's Eve, so my parents pitied me, because when you are born so close to Christmas you just get one Christmas/Merry Birthday present. So they would also celebrate my birthday on the Fourth Of July. To this day, I get very, very emotional whenever I see fireworks."
