David Beckham has thanked British troops for their 2012 London Olympics security work.

The soccer star made stopped by the vehicle search area on the edge of Olympic Park to show his gratitude to servicemen whose job it has been to protect athletes and spectators during the past few weeks.

When interviewed, David said of the soldiers: ''They're doing an incredible job. What they've done so far. They're keeping everyone calm and letting people enjoy the games.''

Taking his sons Cruz, Romeo and Brooklyn with him on his visit, David dodged questions about the rumoured Spice Girls performance during the closing ceremony.

He said: ''I've heard that rumour. I saw some of the rehearsal for the closing ceremony yesterday, it's going to be an amazing occasion.''

The plan for the routine involving Victoria Beckham, 38, Geri Halliwell, 40, Emma Bunton, 36, Melanie Brown, 37, and Melanie Chisholm, 38, was unveiled when they were pictured practising their moves at a secret rehearsal.

More than 20 pop and rock legends will perform 30 British songs at the show.

Artists said to be involved in the two-and-half-hour concert include Queen stars Brian May, 65, and Roger Taylor, 63, who will perform 'We Are The Champions' with comedian Russell Brand, 37.
