Black was a popular choice at last night's BAFTAs (12.02.12) with Meryl Streep and Christina Hendricks among the stars who opted for the dark shade.

Meryl - who took home the Best Actress award for her portrayal of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in 'The Iron Lady' - looked stunning in a plunging Vivienne Westwood dress, which suited her 62 years perfectly, while 'Mad Men' star Christina wowed in a long tight gown by the same designer.

Helena Bonham Carter also chose black as did 'Downton Abbey' stars Joanne Froggatt and Jessica Brown Findlay.

'My Week With Marilyn' actress Michelle Williams stunned everyone by arriving in a bespoke cream and black dress by Swedish high street chain H&M from their Conscious collection, which will be available in stores from April.

Tilda Swinton looked her usual stylish self in an elegant white dress, while Jessica Chastain, Christina Ricci and Gillian Anderson all opted for amazing gold creations.

Viola Davis and Naomie Harris made sure they stood out in bright pink and yellow frocks respectively and Penelope Cruz looked stunning in a simple red dress by Armani, and wore her hair in an Audrey Hepburn-esque bun.
