Tracey Cunningham says highlights can enhance a person's face.
Redken's creative consultant - who styles American actress Cameron Diaz's hair - says adding highlights will "pump up" an overall look and they are a "great way" to make it look like someone has spent time chilling out.
She said: "You can add a few highlights around your face frame to enhance your face or add a lot of highlights to really pump up your overall look.
"This is a great way to play with your hair and brighten your look."
The Hollywood hairdress added ombre highlights - darker roots with sunkissed ends - can be useful for "literally everyone" to make their hair brighter and add some more colour.
She told website BellaSugar: "It works for literally everyone, no matter what your base color or hair length is. It'll give your color that brightness and energy it's been missing."
Tracey also counts Drew Barrymore among her clients, and recently helped Emma Stone return to her signature red hair color.
She said: "Emma loved going back to her natural blonde, but she feels very comfortable as a redhead and it's the colour she gravitates to. Plus, she wanted an exciting shade for summer!"
