Gabriel Aubry is "putting his career on ice" to care for his daughter.

The Canadian-born model - who lives in Los Angeles - has agreed to postpone his impending work commitments and has rented an apartment in New York so he can look after two-year-old Nahla while her mother, Gabriel's ex-girlfriend Halle Berry, shoots new movie 'New Year's Eve'.

A source said: "Gabriel's arranged a short let apartment in New York and he plans to be there all the time Nahla is.

"He has put his career temporarily on ice, cancelled a couple of projects he had booked, and plans on concentrating full time on being with Nahla.

"The agreement at the moment is that Gabriel will be primary caregiver to Nahla during the time Halle is working, but nothing is set in stone, or agreed in writing, so we will have to just see how that goes."

Gabriel only agreed to the move after Halle refused to let Nahla stay with him in Los Angeles while she shot the movie.

The source added to website RadarOnline.com: "He really wanted Nahla to stay behind in LA with him while Halle went to New York, but she wouldn't allow that, so he is uprooting and moving there to be with her."

Earlier this month, 44-year-old Halle - who split from the 35-year-old model last April after almost five years together - went to court to get permission to allow her to take Nahla to New York.
