Michael Douglas received a standing ovation at last night's (16.01.11) Golden Globe awards.
The 'Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps'star - who has recently been given the all-clear after treatment for cancer in his throat - was delighted to make his first public appearance since beating the disease to present an award at the Los Angeles ceremony.
As the crowd stood to applaud his entrance, Michael quipped: "There's gotta be an easier way to get a standing ovation.
"Thank you all very much. I'm really very, very happy to be here tonight. It's nice to be back, it's my first time out this year."
He then announced that 'The Social Network'had won the Best Picture (Drama) award.
Earlier in the evening, Michael - who was accompanied to the ceremony by wife Catherine Zeta-Jones - had spoken of his relief at beating cancer.
He told E! News: "Tumour's gone, and this type of cancer doesn't usually come back. I gotta check in every month. I'm so happy to be out. This is our first time out in months and months, and to be able to come to this thing cancer-free is pretty special." Michael, 66, was up for the Best Supporting Actor award for his role as Gordon Gekko in 'Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps', but lost out to Christian Bale for his role in 'The Fighter'.
The actor - who has children Dylan, 10, and Carys, seven, with Catherine, as well as 32-year-old Cameron from a previous marriage - is also reportedly in talks with a publishing house to write his autobiography, reflecting on his life in Hollywood, loves and his six months of treatment for his throat cancer.
