Demi Lovato's mother would "slap her upside the head" if she went off the rails.

The 18-year-old actress-and-singer - who rose to fame as a Disney star when she was a child - is confident she will avoid the troubles and personal problems which surround a lot of young celebrities because her family and mother Dianna Hart De La Garza are so supportive.

She told RadarOnline.com: "I think it's important to just surround yourself with good people and to make sure you have the support system in your family.

"A lot of the time those are situations when people aren't saying no to those girls and I definitely have a mom who would slap me upside the head if I went crazy or something."

Despite finding fame at a young age, Demi is keen to keep pushing her career forward, starting with the release of her third album in the US next spring.

She explained: "I'm really excited about it. I'm doing more of dance R'n'B mainstream music so I'm really excited."

The pretty brunette also plans to work in film and TV production in future.

She added: "I'm getting in on the creative side and creating TV shows and movies."
