Jerry Hall hoped Sir Mick Jagger would stay faithful to her after she helped him quit drugs.
The 54-year-old model - who split from the Rolling Stones singer 11 years ago - always hoped throughout their marriage that he would "outgrow" his philandering.
When asked if she ever expected legendary ladies man Mick to be faithful, Jerry told Tatler magazine: "Well I thought that as I had helped him clean up with drug addiction, that they was part of it and that he might outgrow it."
The mother-of-four admits she just couldn't cope when she discovered Mick, 67, had father a love child with Brazilian underwear model Luciana Morad in 1999.
She explained: "When he had a child with someone else. That was just the last straw.
"I did love Mick very much. But after years and years of being hopeful, you finally give up. Obviously I tried very, very hard. Sometimes it is better that things come to an end. I still love him very much - he's the father of my children." Jerry - who is currently dating chartered surveyor Philip Ferguson - believes the relationship and love she had for Mick was meant to be.
She said: "It was just one of those things. We met and fell in love. And love makes you do all kinds of things doesn't it?
"Mick was just so overwhelmingly funny and charming - and humor has always been something very attractive to me."
