Beth Ditto's gay date

Beth Ditto dated a man because she thought he was gay.

The Gossip singer -who is in a long-term relationship with Freddie, a transgendered individual who was born a female - says she realised she was a lesbian when she was 15, but embarked on a three-year romance with a gay because she felt he wasn't a threat.

She explained: "I started to hate the friends of my girl friends and was really jealous. I realised that I don't fancy men."

"I went out with a boy for three years when I was at school but I was actually just dating him because I thought he was gay."

Despite baring all for several magazine shoots, Beth admits she is unhappy with her figure but can't bring herself to go on a diet.

She added to Germany's In Touch magazine: "I'm just not happy with how I look. Especially my weight. I'm only 5'2' but weigh 238lbs.

"I want to accept myself as I am and don't change myself. Life is to short for that."
