Nicole Richie wants to marry Joel Madden.
The TV star - who has a 20-month-old daughter Harlow and newborn son Sparrow with the Good Charlotte rocker - has been deeply affected by the death of her ex-fiance DJ AM, real name Adam Goldstein, and is keen for her and Joel to commit to one another forever.
A source told National Enquirer magazine: "Nicole has never been in a rush to get married to Joel. She's so happy with him and their little family that she didn't feel the need to change the way things were between them.
"But when Adam died, she freaked out. She realized life is fragile and short. She doesn't want to have any regrets at all, and she does want to be Joel's wife."
DJ AM was found dead in his New York apartment after an apparent drugs overdose.
Nicole and him got engaged in 2005 but broke up a year later, although they remained friends. She attended a memorial service in his honor in Los Angeles earlier this month.
The 27-year-old star has also told those close she isn't interested in having a celebrity-packed, flashy wedding.
Another source said: "She always envisioned having a huge wedding with hundreds of guests, but since Adam passed away she really had a change of heart. She only wants to have close friends and family there."
