Britain's Sarah Ferguson's former dresser has been moved to a luxury prison. Jane Andrews - who worked for the Duchess of York for nine years - was serving a life sentence in Send jail in Surrey, England, after stabbing her sleeping fiance and battering him to death with a cricket bat.

But she has now been transferred to open prison Askham Grange, which used to be a manor house, after begging the Parole Board to be moved from the harsh surroundings.

An insider told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "She is absolutely ecstatic. She knows this is the first step on her road to eventual freedom and can hardly believe it."

Jane - who murdered businessman Tom Cressman nine years ago - can now look forward to weekend breaks and shopping trips.

Tom's family are furious at the decision and they claim Jane has shown no remorse for her crime.

His brother, Richard, said: "My family - who are still devastated by what she did - have not heard one word of remorse."

However the board ruled she was sorry for the murder and can be considered for parole in just over a year.

A spokesperson for the Prison Service said: "Protecting the public is our priority. Releasing long-term prisoners directly from closed prisons without rehabilitating them in open conditions is likely to lead to reoffending."
