Daisy Lowe had a cervical cancer scare. The British model - the daughter of singer Pearl Lowe and Bush rocker Gavin Rossdale - was left shocked and depressed after a routine check-up in May revealed she had to undergo surgery to remove pre-cancerous cells.

The 20-year-old beauty said: "I got really low after that. For a good month I was crying all the time."

Cervical screening can detect pre-cancerous cells and these cells can be removed before they develop into cancer.

Daisy - who previously dated music producer Mark Ronson - has now recovered from the operation and says she is healthy and happy.

She added: "I am absolutely fine. All of those things, they just make you stronger."

Daisy's health worries came shortly after British reality TV star Jade Goody died of cervical cancer in March, aged just 27.

Daisy isn't the only celebrity who has had a cancer scare. Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, 36, became patron of the national charity Breast Cancer Care after undergoing an emergency operation to remove a small lump from her right breast.

Geri, who was 18 at the time, had to wait three days before doctors gave her the all-clear.

She said: "At the time I was terrified and I wish I'd known more about being breast aware. Breast cancer is very rare in younger women, but it can happen."

Earlier this year, actress Brooke Shields began promoting safe sunbathing after fearing she had skin cancer.

She said: "I had a spot on my face. The doctor scraped it, and it turned out to be precancerous. I was scared."

Kylie Minogue was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2005 and underwent grueling chemotherapy treatment before being given the all clear in 2006.
