Britain's Queen Elizabeth has entered six horses in this year's Royal Ascot races. The 83-year-old monarch - who is known to bet on her own equines - wore a canary yellow silk dress with a matching linen jacket and boater-style hat to the first day of prestigious annual event Tuesday.
She is expected to return to the racetrack in Berkshire, south east England, today to watch her first horse run in the Jersey Stakes.
Her prize horse Free Agent - who won on the final day of the meet last year - will race in the King George V Stakes tomorrow and the King Edward VII Stakes on Friday, while Four Winds will run in the Hampton Court stakes Thursday morning.
The royal family - including Prince Philip, Prince Charles and his wife Camilla and Princess Beatrice - arrived in their traditional carriage procession and made straight for the Royal Enclosure.
Once there, they mingled with celebrities including music mogul Simon Cowell, who are all forced to follow a strict dress code.
Women must wear a hat or "substantial fascinator," strapless and halter neck frocks and miniskirts are banned and midriffs must be covered.
Men have to wear morning dress with a waistcoat and top hat.
Royal have been attending racing at Ascot since 1711, when Queen Anne drove from nearby Windsor Castle with her entourage for a day's sport organized specially for her entertainment.
