Jessica Alba is being investigated after putting up shark posters in Oklahoma City. The Hollywood beauty - who is in the area filming thriller "The Killer Inside Me" - has been forced to apologize after photographs surfaced of her posing in front of a billboard, a bridge and electrical boxes covered in giant images of the killer fish.

Jessica said in a statement: "I got involved in something I should have had no part of. I realize that I should have used better judgment and I regret not thinking things through before I made a spontaneous and ill-advised decision to let myself get involved with the people behind this campaign."

"I sincerely apologize to the citizens of Oklahoma City and to the United Way for my involvement in this incident."

The 3ft posters are believed to have been distributed by White Mike, a group that raises awareness about conserving and protecting great white sharks.

The photographs of 28-year-old Jessica, who is reportedly smiling and holding a pot of glue by the vandalized areas, were spotted on website TheLostOgle.com and the White Mike blog.

Police officers have struggled to remove the posters because the glue used was so strong.

Oklahoma City Police Sergeant Gary Knight said Tuesday: "A number of shark posters were placed around downtown with heavy-duty glue, making them darn near impossible to get off."

"It's basically a vandalism case that could involve our new tagger laws. It will be assigned to a detective, and then we'd send it to the District Attorney's office."

Jessica's representative has offered to replace the defaced United Way billboard.
