Kate Moss has been banned from drinking alcohol after she contracted an infection in her big toe. The 35-year-old supermodel is reportedly taking strong antibiotics after picking up the fungal infection during a pedicure in America.

A source told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "Kate fancied a little pampering when she went to New York for the launch of her clothing range in Topshop."

"She normally uses beauty salons in the five-star hotels she stays in but this time decided to pop into a parlor in Chinatown."

"She regrets the decision now as the nail on her big toe on her right foot has turned yellow and has become really thick and ugly."

"She is certain she caught a fungal infection from the cheap salon."

The infection has halted Kate's plans to party at this weekend's Coachella music festival in California, where her boyfriend Jamie Hince's band The Kills are playing.

The source added: "She's really annoyed as she was looking forward to wearing open-toe sandals now that the weather is heating up. But she's going to have to keep her feet undercover for a little longer."

"Kate was looking forward to letting her hair down with Jamie at the festival. But she knows she's going to have to lay off the booze for the duration due to her medication."

The Coachella festival - which also features Morrissey, Paul McCartney, My Bloody Valentine and M.I.A among many other acts - starts Friday and runs until Sunday.
