Mel Gibson's wife of over 28 years, Robyn Gibson, has filed for divorce from the actor/director. In the papers filed in the L.A. Superior County Court, Gibson cites "irreconcilable differences." The couple has 7 children, although only one of them is a minor.
In the papers filed in the L.A. County Court, Robyn Gibson seeks joint physical and legal custody of their 10-year-old son Tom. According to sources, the couple do not have a prenuptial agreement. Gibson's worth is estimated at $900 million, which under California law, entitles her to community property where assets are divided 50/50. In the court documents, she asks for spousal support and payment of her attorney's fees.
"Throughout our marriage and separation we have always strived to maintain the privacy and integrity of our family and will continue to do so," said Robyn and Mel Gibson in a statement. They have separated for approximately two and a half years. Gibson's infamous drunk driving arrest happened in July of 2006.
Robyn Gibson is being represented by attorney Laura Wasser, who has handled divorces for celebrities such as Britney Spears and Angelina Jolie.
