Whitney Houston is fighting her stepmom with a lawsuit of her own. The singer is countersuing her dad's widow, Barbara Houston, for $1.6 million.
Whitney is responding to the lawsuit Barbara filed last year, wherein the stepmother claimed the singer kept the $1 million insurance payout after her father died in 2003. Barbara alleged that $723,000 was supposed to be hers, but Whitney held on to the entire sum.
However, the "I Have Nothing" legend dismisses the paltry amount, saying Barbara owes her much more.
Barbara apparently owes Whitney $1.6 million for failing to make mortgage, tax and condo payments for the New Jersey home she's lived in since 1987. Whitney says she lent her late father the mortgage to buy the condo and hasn't been paid back yet.
The Grammy Award-winning songstress' rep told E! News, "[Whitney] Houston is using the legal remedies available to her."
