Robin Williams has cancelled several shows after experiencing shortness of breath. The comedian was due to perform his one-man show 'Weapons of Self-Destruction' four times in Florida, but called them off after seeking medical advice.

A doctor has advised Robin - who is in the middle of an 80-date tour - to rest for a week before returning to the stage.

The comedian was to take to the stage at Hollywood's Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino today and tomorrow, at Orlando's UCF Arena on Friday and at the Sundome in Tampa on Saturday. All the cancelled shows will be rescheduled, with tickets remaining valid for the new dates.

Robin is expected to be well enough to perform his show in Jacksonville on Monday.

The comedian recently announced he is taking his show to New York's legendary Broadway district, where he will perform eight dates.

He said: "The current state of the country's political and economic climate, while so hard on so many people, has been like gold for a comedian. There's just so much that's ripe for the picking."
