Kate Winslet's children can't wait to play with her Oscar. "The Reader" star - who was named Best Actress at the Academy Awards on Sunday - has revealed her children are desperate for her to bring home the prestigious award so they can pretend they have won a prize.

Kate - who is married to "American Beauty" director Sam Mendes - said: "My kids are waiting for me to bring home an Oscar. It's great because with my husband's Oscar we now have a pair. They love playing with my awards and this means they get to hold one each. I might just try and hang on to it for a while myself though."

The 33-year-old actress has two children - eight-year-old daughter Mia from a previous relationship and son Joe, five, with Sam.

Kate - who has also won two Golden Globes and a BAFTA this year - revealed during her acceptance speech she dreamed of winning an Oscar since she was a child.

She said: "I'll be lying if I say that I have not prepared a version of this speech since the time I was eight and in the bathroom and this trophy was a bottle of shampoo. But it's not a shampoo bottle anymore! I feel very fortunate to have made it from there to here."
