Britain's Prince Harry has split from his girlfriend Chelsy Davy. The 24-year-old royal and the Zimbabwean-born beauty - who had been dating for around five years - decided to go their separate ways after going through a "rough patch."
A source told Britain's News of the World newspaper: "She has simply had enough. They have been going through what she calls a 'rough patch' and she didn't see the point in going on."
"There has been talk of other girls - but Harry denied it. Chelsy felt it was time to call it a day."
Chelsy - who is currently studying law at Leeds University in North England - has since changed her relationship status on networking website Facebook to: "Not in one."
Harry is said to be "gutted" about the split, while Chelsy spent days in tears when it ended.
The prince - who started an intensive pilot's training course with the Army Air Corps last week - insists the split was "the right thing to do" and is now determined to focus on his career.
A source explained: "The truth of the matter is that while they love each other to bits, Harry and Chelsy have been pulling in opposite directions for some time."
"Harry knows he needs to knuckle down with his career with the military while Chelsy is taking her finals this year and wants to forge ahead with hers."
"They have rowed and split up before but this time it appears to be permanent."
"They both realized that they had reached an impasse and that things had run their course."
It has been claimed Chelsy became increasingly frustrated with Harry's reluctance to visit her at university - the prince reportedly only traveled to Leeds twice in 18 months.
Clarence House has confirmed the split.
Meanwhile, it has been claimed Chelsy spent time partying with crocodile hunter Jabu Kirkland while Harry was completing a tour of duty in Afghanistan in 2007.
A source explained: "She and Jabu maintain they are just good friends, but there is clearly chemistry there. Jabu is exactly the kind of guy we would have expected Chelsy to fall for, were it not for the fact she was dating a prince."
