Britain's Prince William has surprised girlfriend Kate Middleton with a romantic supper at a fairytale log cabin, fueling rumors he is set to propose.

The 26-year-old royal arranged for staff to prepare the isolated wooden lodge as a surprise for Kate during their current holiday in Scotland.

Kate was said to be delighted to see the table laid with white linen and silver cutlery and enjoyed an intimate meal in their romantic hideaway. After their supper they spent the evening alone cuddled in front of a roaring log fire, The Sun reports.

The couple have been holidaying in Aberdeenshire with William's father, Prince Charles and his wife Camilla since New Year's Day.

This is the first time Kate has been invited on a family holiday, prompting speculation William is planning to pop the question at some point in 2009.

Kate's parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, have been invited to meet the royal family on their Scottish holiday, when they will all celebrate Kate's 27th birthday on Friday.

A source explained: "The prince wanted to get to know Kate's parents better and it seemed to be the ideal time for everyone."

Rumors of a 2009 marriage proposal are so high that many bookmakers are refusing to take bets on it happening.
