We're totally sweating this fall's hottest accessories
by Jackie Nasser
They've been around forever, but this season, the simple yet oh-so-chic headband is making a major comeback. So what has everyone from Rachel Bilson to Ashlee Simpson rocking the 'do-friendly accessory? "The new headbands are much more comfortable to wear," says Jennifer Behr, who designs her own line of hair accessories. "...And they are flattering--when your hair is pulled back, it highlights your eyes and face and makes your face look brighter and lighter." Plus, they're perfect for that bad hair day, when your bangs just won't grow out fast enough or simply to add a finishing touch to a basic look. But are they foolproof? Jennifer Behr shares some tricks of the trade to help us avoid looking dumb in a headband:
Jennifer Says:
1) Experiment: "Try on a few widths - while some people look better in thin ones, others will look better in wider bands."
2) Consider Your Coloring: "Headbands are worn right next to the face, so you want to find a color that complements your skin and hair. I like ones with color (blues, reds, warm browns, etc) because they bring color to the face."
3) Work with your Bangs: "Wear it closer to your hairline but with a few bangs pulled out (if you have them) to soften the look. Sometimes, the wide ones look great with the ears tucked under."
4) Don't be Shy: "Everyone can wear headbands - it's really about just finding the right one for you. You sometimes have to get used to seeing yourself in one if you haven't worn one before."
Plastic, leather, braided, polka dot, animal print or classic black- feel free to experiment. Hey, they're removable.
