A celeb-vs-runway model face-off. Who wears each look best?
by Jackie Nasser
Doesn't it just figure that the only people who can actually afford designer clothes wind up getting them for free most of the time? While we flip through magazines for fashion inspiration and trek off to the mall to see the latest looks, life is very different if you're a movie star. When celebs need something to wear to the next big awards show or movie premiere, they simply choose a super-expensive (and impossible to find) designer dress straight off the runway.
Once fashion editors and buyers filled the front row seats at Fashion Week, but now, the hottest tickets are going to the stars; JLo, Mischa Barton, MK and Ashley Olsen, Emmy Rossum and new BFFs Katie Homes and Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham are regulars under the tents. Even stuffy old-school designers have become accommodating to today's "It Girls." After all, when a celeb gets snapped in one of their creations, it translates to instant exposure and a whole lot of $$. So we now live in a world where celebrities (even B-listers) have free designer clothes thrown at them, uber-stylists reserving the most extravagant dresses for them as soon as they hit the runway and Karl Lagerfeld on speed-dial. Like we needed another reason to want to be famous.
Sure, the clothes look amazing when professional models are strutting down the catwalk, but how to they hold up when starlets take on high fashion?
