Britney Spears' two-year-old son was released from hospital Monday night.

Jayden James - who was rushed to the Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in Kentwood, Louisiana, on Sunday after suffering a suspected seizure - is said to have suffered an allergic reaction caused by "something he ingested."

A statement posted on Britney's official website yesterday read: "Jayden James Federline was admitted to the Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center on Sunday, November 9th."

"Doctors concluded he had a reaction to something he ingested."

Britney - who reportedly refused to leave Jayden's side while he was being treated - was photographed wearing sunglasses as she carried the tot into what appeared to be a car accompanied by a security escort.

The incident occurred as Britney visited her family, marking the first time she has taken her sons to her home state since she lost custody of them to ex-husband Kevin Federline, who is now the primary carer of both Jayden James and the couple's other son, three-year-old Sean Preston.
