Usher's mother has called her new grandson a "precious gift from God."

Jonnetta Patton - who Usher sacked as his manager earlier this year amid rumors she was feuding with his wife Tameka Foster - has poignantly offered her congratulations to both her son and his wife.

Usher's wife has given birth to the couple's first child.

The singer's wife Tameka Foster delivered the 7lb 9oz boy, named Usher Raymond V, at 9.30pm on Monday in Atlanta, Georgia.

Usher says rumors about a rift in his marriage have just made his love even stronger. The 29-year-old singer - who called off his July wedding to Tameka Foster amid rumors his mother did not approve of the union, before tying the knot a week later - claims battling untrue allegations has made the couple a strong united "team."

He told Essence magazine: "Ours is not a typical love story, but it is a true one. Tameka and I have been fortunate enough to go through the thick of it in the beginning. We've had that opportunity to huddle up as a team, to make sure that we're clear and speak as one voice."

Usher has reportedly canceled his new album to concentrate on his family life. The rapper and singer, who is expecting a boy with new wife Tameka Foster next month, has decided spending time with Tameka is more important than working on new material.

A source told the New York Post newspaper: "The album isn't happening anymore, due to issues in his personal life, even though it had been in the works for over a year."

Usher has revealed he is having a boy.

The R'n'B star, whose wife and manager Tameka Foster is expecting his first child in the autumn, hopes his son will be healthy and well-behaved.
