Isaac Washington's denial of using sexist slurs against his "Grey's Anatomy" co-star T.R. Knight has caused a new rift between the ensemble cast and instigated a campaign to fire him from the award winning show.
Washington told Access Hollywood at the Golden Globe Awards that he had not called Knight a "f*ggot" while on set, which made headlines and resulted in the star coming out publicly as a homosexual.
The denial caused co-star Katherine Heigl to defend her "best friend" Knight and urge Washington to stop talking in public.
Now, Knight himself has spoken out about the incident, which he confirms did take place. The actor appeared on "The Ellen Degeneres Show," detailing his experiences with Washington.
The star told the talk show host, "He referred to me as a f*ggot...He denied that he said it. I don't know what to say really about that."
Knight explained to Degeneres that his decision to publicly declare himself gay was the result of Washington's slurs - however he says that his friends and family were already aware.
He said, "I was under no delusions. My friends on the set knew. We talked about it. They knew. I was not under any delusion that they didn't know but I think publicly it's not my thing to like call up People Magazine and be like 'hey you want to know something about me?' You know, I think when it happened (the incident) I've never been called it and you know, you go through things in life and you lose friends when you go through the process, whatever your journey is but I've never been called that to my face. So, I think when that happened something shifted and it became bigger you know what I mean, then myself."
TV Guide magazine columnist Michael Ausiello was in the press room when Washington denied the claims and says, "It was by far the ugliest, most uncomfortable press-room moment I have ever experienced. And judging by the shell-shocked faces on the cast - particularly T.R. Knight and Patrick Dempsey, who have been class acts throughout this entire ordeal - it was a new low for them, too."
The magazine is now calling for the ABC network to fire the shamed star, who has also had on-set arguments with Patrick Dempsey.
