Tommy Lee claims he did nothing to provoke Kid Rock's attack on him at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night.
The Motley Crue drummer came to blows with Rock at the Las Vegas ceremony in the Pearl Theater at the Palms Casino Resort after Lee reportedly muttered something to Rock as he walked past his table.
However, Lee denies he was the instigator, told 'The Insider' TV show: "I was minding myself and then he goes and punches me on the cheek. I was trying to be the bigger man, but he was acting childish."
"I was ready to go in the alley and kick his ass. I was about to put Kid in the emergency room when security grabbed me. They said, 'If you move, we will break your arms.'"
The two ex-husbands of 'Baywatch' beauty Pamela Anderson were pulled apart by security and Lee was escorted straight out of the venue.
Rap producer Rich Nice, who witnessed the event, said: "It looked like Tommy initiated the fight because Kid was ignoring him. Tommy started to antagonize Kid, and then when Tommy stood up, Kid hit him first with a backhand.
"Tommy looked like he was trying to aggressively retaliate and then Kid hit him again. Security then grabbed Tommy in a headlock and pulled him off."
Las Vegas Police Department later questioned Rock. He was not arrested but was issued with a summons for misdemeanor battery and must return to Las Vegas for a future court date.
If convicted, he faces a $500 fine and up to six months in jail.
