Tiger Woods has much to celebrate with the New Year ahead of him.
Tiger has revealed that he is going to become a daddy for the first time. The golf champion announced on Saturday that he and his wife, Elin Nordegren, will welcome their first child together next summer.
On his website, Tiger said how happy he is to start a family, saying, "As some of you know, today is my 31st birthday. I'll spend it quietly with family and friends, but Elin and I have more exciting news to share: We are expecting our first child together this summer. Obviously, we couldn't be happier and our families are thrilled."
However, the sadness of his father's death and enormous absence that will be felt during his child's birth is apparent.
He added, "I have always wanted to be a dad. I just wish my father could be around to share the experience."
Earl Woods, his father, lost his life to cancer in May at the age of 74. Both father and son had an extremely close relationship, which was often viewed and praised in public.
After his father's passing, Tiger said, "My dad was my best friend and greatest role model. He was an amazing dad, coach, mentor, soldier, husband and friend."
