The Oscars are being moved back to February.
The Academy Awards ceremony had to be shifted to the first weekend in March this year (2006) to avoid clashing with the Winter Olympics' closing ceremonies.
The announcement will see the 79th event - which will take place at Hollywood's lavish Kodak Theater - moved back to its traditional place in the showbiz calendar, the last Sunday in the month - February 25.
The Oscars were first moved in March 2004 to allow films with smaller budgets to compete with the glitzy Hollywood Oscar campaigns.
However, event organizers have decided to move the event back to its original slot, and start nominations and voting earlier.
The very first Oscars were handed out on May 16, 1929. In those days the ceremony was an intimate affair - a banquet held in the Blossom Room of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.
While today's guest list consists of over three thousand names, back then, just 270 people were allowed in and tickets cost $5.
The ceremony was first televised in 1953, and was viewed in color for the first time in 1966.
