Alec Baldwin is not going to win 'father of the year' but to his brother William he is OK.
Since Alec's image-destroying phone call to his daughter, Ireland, when he called her a "rude, thoughtless little pig," many have come out to slaughter the star.
But his younger brother, William Baldwin, is sticking by his sibling and trying to convince people that "The Aviator" actor is a good, loving father.
William told "Extra" that the answering machine message was the result of years of custody battles with Ireland's mother, Kim Basinger.
He said, "Imagine you have been going through this custody battle for seven years. This is my brother's only child and you have this court ordered phone call. It consistently becomes a pattern for four, five, six days (that he could not get his daughter on the phone)... I'm sure this feeds into the insecurities that my brother has that his ex-wife (Kim Basinger) is trying to poison the well."
William, a father-of-three, claims that when Alec is in contact with his 11-year-old child, he is a model father.
He continued, "When I've seen my brother with Ireland, he's done nothing but foster and promote a happy, loving relationship, not only between him and his daughter, but between his daughter and Kim... My brother is a wonderful guy and a wonderful father."
Alec is also going to be publicly defending himself on women's TV talk show "The View."
According to TMZ, a source in the audience for the pre-taped show said that Alec "was very heartfelt, apologetic and emotional."
TMZ reports that the audience warmed to the star, applauding his appearance.
