Actress Thandie Newton has won the spot as the next Bond girl opposite the new 007, Daniel Craig. Thandie was not the top choice to play the sexy spy Vesper Lynd, both Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron turned down the role.

But, producers and Daniel were reportedly "very impressed" with Thandie's work in "Casino Royale." The Zimbabwe-born actress' first huge acting gig was as the title character in Oprah Winfrey's "Beloved" in 1998.

Since then she boasts a stellar resume appearing in blockbusters such as "Interview with a Vampire" with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt; "Chronicles of Riddick" with Vin Diesel; "Mission Impossible II" with Tom Cruise and Ving Rhames; and "Crash" with Don Cheadle, Sandra Bullock, and Matt Dillon.
