Sylvester Stallone wanted David Beckham to star in 'Rambo'.

The Hollywood actor is a huge fan of the soccer star - who moved to Los Angeles last July - and was considering casting him in the movie so they could spend some quality time together.

He said: "I knew that David Beckham would be received as a superstar when he came to America. Actually, I thought that maybe I should put him in the new 'Rambo' film and chase him around the jungle for a couple of months."

Stallone recently revealed filming 'Rambo' was so "tough" it made his boxing movie 'Rocky Balboa' seem like ballet.

The 61-year-old actor - who reprises the role of Vietnam war veteran John Rambo for the blockbuster movie - claimed the fourth installment is the "most difficult action movie" he has ever made.

He said: "I thought after filming all the hard boxing scenes in 'Rocky Balboa' in 2006, 'What could be tougher?' But it was like the 'The Nutcracker' ballet compared to 'Rambo.'"

"This was the most difficult action movie I have ever made, and I've made a few."

'Rambo' sees the war hero take a group of mercenaries up into Myanmar via the Salween River in search of missing Christian aid workers.
