Pink says her fellow Americans think she is a "psycho." The feisty singer - who landed her first U.S. number one with her new single "So What" - believes people in the States still consider her to be unhinged because of her turbulent life, despite phenomenal record sales.

She said: "No one could believe I was number one. They still think I'm a psycho back home."

"I just laugh and don't pay attention. I guess I'm pretty much all over the place."

"I'm pretty much in your face and that can work against me. People still don't get me."

However, the recently divorced 29-year-old star - who became involved with drugs at an early age before cleaning up her lifestyle - insists she leads a normal life.

She said: "I'm a regular person, I have a garden I like to relax in when I'm not working, I read books - it's not all parties."

Pink has now vowed to learn French after being inspired by the late singer Edith Piaf.

She added to Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "I was listening to a lot of French music, old singers like Edith Piaf. It was inspiring."

"I'm taking French classes and I've given myself the target of being fluent by the time I'm 35."
