With so many phonies out there, sometimes it's hard to differentiate fact from fiction.

A person posing as Monaco's Prince Albert had written to popstar Mika pleading with him to stop singing hit song "Grace Kelly."

The Beirut-born singer revealed he was shocked to receive the threatening letter on the same day Albert's sister Princess Stephanie praised him for the tune dedicated to their actress mother.

Mika told MTV news, "I received a letter from the prince saying if I didn't change the title I wouldn't be let in the principality. I called my lawyer to say 'This is serious.' "

Luckily, the letter turned out to be a hoax and Mika is still welcome in Monaco.

He added, "The letter was a fake and someone had my address. It was a quite amazing spoof. But I believed it."

Mika says he chose to dedicate a song to the Hollywood icon - who retired from acting when she married Prince Rainier in 1956 - because she was perceived as a rebel, like him.

He said, "The song is all about identity and what people expect of me and how I'm perceived. I think Grace Kelly was a rebel and I liked that about her, rather than actresses like Audrey Hepburn or Sophia Loren."

Grace starred in a number of hit films including "Mogambo, "The Country Girl" and "High Society." Kelly died at age 52 in 1982, after being involved in a car crash.
