Jessica Simpson sung through tears when she performed a tribute to Dolly Parton at a White House event.

The pop star sung Parton's hit "Nine to Five" but promptly left the stage in tears at the end of the song with no applause.

The singer admitted that she was "so nervous" performing in front of Parton.

The "Steel Magnolias" star was being honored by the Kennedy Centre in Washington for her contribution to performing arts.

The country singer was joined by Motown star Smokey Robinson, director Steven Spielberg and composer Andrew Lloyd Webber.
