Sarah Jessica Parker has been the best-dressed girl in the room for years. Now, the actress is letting other woman have a stake in her style.
The "Sex And The City" star has already offered consumers a scent and is now designing outfits to go with "Lovely."
"Bitten," the star's collection of affordable fashion, will be launched on June 7. In preparation for going from a style icon to a style setter, SJP talked to PEOPLE and explained why she shied away from couture.
Used to wearing the best of the best in the name of fashion - from high end vintage to one off runway pieces - Sarah Jessica was intent on making clothes available to all women.
She said, "It always seemed very unsavory to ponder a real design job. I don't sketch. I don't know how to sew. But I am acutely aware of what it means to not have the things you need, let alone the things you want. And you should be able to have affordable, quality fashion."
SJP, who has been concentrating on her film career since the end of "Sex And The City" and in between design duties, said that she is not actually a woman who spends a lot of money on clothes. Instead, she opens her Fendi wallet for the other irresistible piece of fashion.
She said, "I tend to be someone who splurges on shoes. I know a lot of people splurge on decorative jackets, but I don't because I don't look good in them. I've got too much hair, and I don't know how to pull it up myself to get it out of the way of the jacket!"
While Sarah Jessica says, "There shouldn't be rules!" in terms of fashion, she does have one regret - not wearing white to her wedding. The star recently celebrated her tenth wedding anniversary with husband Matthew Broderick, but says she regrets not being more style conscious on her big day.
She said, "Our logic was we didn't want to draw attention to ourselves that day, because we're actors and we get attention all day long. It was a party for everybody else. Matthew bought a suit off the rack and I bought the first dress I looked at. I wish I had worn white."

Please tell me if Sarah Jessica Parker's fashion line will be sold at Target, K-Mart or Walmart. I live in Maryland and the store she mentioned on Oprah is not in this area. Thank you!

I have been looking forward to the release of this line ever since it was launched on the Oprah show. I'm a plus size and loosing weight. I thought what a way to fill in my wadrobe during this transition. I went to Steve and Barry's in Staunton VA and they are receiving very little of Bitten product and harding any size 20 and up. How is this dilemma to be solved? Signed, Going somewhere else for my transition wadrobe.

I would very much like to own some of your new clothing line, however like the rest of the comments there is not a store near here (opening soon in SF is still 60min.away) Why can't we purchase your clothes on line, or send out a catalog to order from. If you want this to be accessible for ALL working women, then why are the clothes so hard to cmoe by?
