Ryan O'Neal has been released on $50,000 bail after a fight with his son that involved a firearm.
O'Neal has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm after he fired a shot during an argument with his 42-year-old son Griffin.
The 65-year-old actor was held in the Lost Hills police station for five hours on Saturday morning after being arrested for what police call a "family dispute."
Griffin, whose mother is Joanna Moore and sister is Oscar winner Tatum O'Neal, has been involved with the law himself. He was involved in a 1986 boating accident which killed the son of "Godfather" director Francis Ford Coppola. After failing to do his court ordered community service, he spent 18 days in jail.
O'Neal previously dated Farrah Fawcett for 15 years. Both stars, who also have a son together, have recently dealt with cancer.
