The Rolling Stones have been put on an organic diet by Ronnie Wood's wife.

Jo Wood embraced the healthier form of eating after suffering a perforated appendix, and says it was easy to persuade the wives of Ronnie's bandmates - Sir Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Charlie Watts - to follow suit.

Jo said: "Before and after surgery I was sticking to an organic diet. A herbalist called Gerald Green explained how chemicals in our food destroy our immune systems. I was determined to eat only organic food if it was the last thing I did."

"Ronnie eats whatever I put in front of him. He likes basic, wholesome food."

"The Rolling Stones used to tease me when I preached to them. Keith Richards would say, 'Jo, you're addicted to organic food.' That made me giggle. But while he was laughing at me his wife Patti was preparing him organic food."

"Mick Jagger and his ex-wife Jerry Hall eat organic now. After Charlie Watts recovered from throat cancer he really appreciated the health benefits too. I can't wait to get my hands on Penny Lancaster and Rod Stewart!"

Despite his healthy diet, Jo admits Ronnie - who has battled alcoholism throughout his life - still struggles to avoid drink.

She added to Britain's Hello! magazine: "He's on and off the wagon all the time. But at least his vodka and wine are organic."
