It seems like it's been forever since we last heard from Ricky Martin. That's because instead of "living la vida loca," the Puerto Rican star is living la vida "private" now.

The Latin sensation recently poked his head back in the limelight for a few moments to let us know he's still around, but that he's simply chosen to live a more peaceful, secluded life.

Although Ricky has sold millions of records all over the world, this cutie-patootie has realized how much his private life is sacred to him, and he wants to keep it that way. Ricky admits he's shifted his focus on life in the past years, and protecting his privacy is of utmost importance to him now.

According to ContactMusic.com, the singer recently explained, "My mother always said, 'Protect your own. Son, in this life you can do anything, but do it well. Don't be compulsive or obsessive, and protect your own.'"

He also reveals how it's essential for him to respect the privacy of his family members and close friends as well.

He added, "I might be in the spotlight but I don't want that to affect the people I'm with. They are my people and I keep them for myself. "Protecting my privacy is something instinctive with me."
