Thankfully Regis Philbin is out of the surgery room and now recovering at home.
It has been reported that the talk show host had a successful triple-bypass surgery on Wednesday and is already "up and joking around with nurses," according to Regis' overly obnoxious co-host, Kelly Ripa from "Live With Regis and Kelly."
Earlier in the week, doctors strongly advised that the funny guy undergo heart surgery after physicians discovered some plaque in his arteries, which required immediate removal.
Dr. O Wayne Isom of New York performed the heart surgery on Regis. He was the same doctor who completed David Letterman's quintuple bypass in 1998.
While Regis is now resting and getting his spirits back up, guest hosts have offered to come in and temporarily fill in the empty seat next to Kelly. News journalist Anderson Cooper helped keep the show moving on Monday and Tuesday, while MTV VJ Damien Fahey is expected to take his place on Thursday and Friday.
E! Online reports that doctors say Regis should be back on the job in about five weeks time.
