Hollywood actress Reese Witherspoon and her actor husband Ryan Phillippe are separating, their publicist said Monday.
Nanci Ryder, the couple's publicist issued a statement saying, "We are saddened to announce that Reese and Ryan have decided to formally separate."
"They remain committed to their family and we ask that you please respect their privacy and the safety of their children at this time."
Ryder refused to provide details on the reason of the couple's separation.
Witherspoon, 30, and Phillippe, 32, have two children, seven-year-old Ava and three-year-old Deacon.
The couple met on the set of "Cruel Intentions" which was released in 1999.
Witherspoon started this year on a high note when she won best-actress in the Academy Awards in March for her role as June Carter Cash in the 2005 flick "Walk the Line."
Phillippe co-starred in the best-picture winner, "Crash," and is starring in Clint Eastwood's latest film, the World War II drama "Flags of Our Fathers."
