R. Kelly missed a court appearance for charges of child pornography after he suffered a burst appendix this week.

The singer, who was due in court on Wednesday on 14 counts of child pornography, was admitted to Miami's Jackson Memorial Hospital for emergency surgery on Sunday.

Kelly's lawyer Terence Gillespie said on Thursday, "He is in a good condition and is expected to be released later today."

The R&B singer - real name Robert Kelly - has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is awaiting trial. Kelly was charged in 2002 of engaging in sexual acts with an underage girl after video footage of the incident was found.

A Cook County judge issued a ruling that allowed Kelly to travel out of state for business purposes without permission in December last year. The singer was in Miami to perform at a Super Bowl party over the weekend.

His next court date is February 21, and Gillespie said he expected Kelly to attend.
