According to her prince charming boyfriend, just because she may soon become royalty doesn't mean she shouldn't work for her money.
Prince William urged his girlfriend to get a job, in fear she was being perceived as an all-time shopper.
Kate Middleton - who recently landed a role as an assistant accessories buyer for a highstreet clothing chain called Jigsaw - took over a year to get a full-time job after leaving St. Andrews University in 2005.
Kate's lack of permanent employment and pictures of her frequent shopping trips appearing in the press reportedly worried William, 24, who feared his sweetheart might be perceived as not having any personal ambitions.
A source told Britain's Daily Mail newspaper, "Although William understands how difficult dating a royal can be, he became quite sensitive about the way she was perceived. He was particularly concerned that it looked like she was on one long shopping trip, whiling (sic) away her time while waiting for him to propose."
Kate tried to set up her own children's wear firm after leaving St. Andrews, but the project never got off the ground.
The source added, "Kate has tried, but the job at Jigsaw was the perfect solution, as Kate is interested in fashion."
However, Kate's new job has already managed to raise a few eyebrows. The 24-year-old - who has been dating William for four years - secured the job through family contacts and only works four days a week in order to plan her schedule around the prince's.
She was also given almost three weeks vacation over the Christmas break, despite having only been with the company for seven weeks.
