Britain's Prince William has created his own page on social networking website Facebook. William, 24, has set up his profile under the name William Wales and has posted a picture of himself in sunglasses and a ski hat.

The prince has 44 friends listed on his page, including Alexandra Aitken, daughter of disgraced Tory politician Jonathan Aitken, along with many of his fellow students from Scotland's St. Andrew's University.

The prince's former girlfriend Kate Middleton is also listed as a friend.

One of William's pals, Edward Blunt, has posted a photo of the prince playing polo, next to which the young royal has written "Think that's more like it, although I didn't pot it."

His friend replies: "You will never beat me till you work on your technique."

Clarence House refused to comment on what they said was a "private matter."

Facebook is similar to the popular profile-sharing site MySpace, however users have more control over who can view their page.

William's younger cousins Princess Eugenie, 17, and 18-year-old Princess Beatrice are both fans of Facebook.
