Prince Charles is not only going "green" but he wants to rid the world of junk food too.

In his latest mission, the British prince wants to ban McDonald's.

The prince, who owns the organic food company Duchy Originals, told an expert nutritionist what he thought of the famous fast food chain during a visit to the Imperial College London Diabetes Center in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.

Speaking to Nadine Tayara, he said, "Have you gotten anywhere with McDonald's, have you tried getting it banned? That's the key."

Charles and wife Camilla traveled to the center during their ten-day tour of the Gulf to launch a campaign about the dangers of diabetes.

A royal spokesman explained, "In visiting the diabetes center, Prince Charles was keen to emphasize the need for children to enjoy the widest variety of food and not to eat to excess. He has long advocated the importance of a balanced diet, especially for children."

The prince's two sons, Princes William and Harry, are said to be fans of fast food, and Harry was recently spotted tucking into a burger at a polo match.

A spokesperson for McDonald's said that Charles's comments were "off the cuff and disappointing", adding that he was "clearly unaware" of their new low fat and salad options.

As Prince Charles has discovered for himself, you cannot tell young people what to eat. William and Harry love fast food, so does an entire generation their ages. You can advise people on what is healthy and nutritionally sound and what is not, but you can't order them to make changes to their diets and lifestyles.

Personally, I enjoy the occasional McDonalds meals that I eat, and never feel guilty for eating them. Life is too short to stick to some rigid diet or eating plan. Eating is meant to be, above all, an enjoyable activity and if people enjoy eating at McDonalds, Burger King, KFC or Pizza Hut then that is their choice, it is not grounds for comment by anyone not even the royal family.
