Academy Award-winning actress and former fashion model Julia Roberts has been named the 22nd recipient of annual American Cinematheque award. The award will be presented at an Oct. 12 gala in Beverly Hills and its presentation will be aired on the AMC cable television network in December.

The 40-year-old actress was chosen unanimously by American Cinematheque's selection committee, Variety magazine reported.

American Cinematheque is a non-profit organization that has been presenting the award each year - since its inception in 1986 - to a filmmaker, actor or writer in recognition of contributions to the art form.

Previous recipients of the award include directors such as Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Ron Howard and Rob Reiner and actors ranging from Sean Connery and Al Pacino to Jodie Foster and Nicole Kidman.
