Regis Philbin will be disappearing from television screens for a short time to have heart surgery.
The 75-year-old host revealed on his show, "Live With Regis And Kelly" that he has been recommended to undergo bypass surgery.
Philbin explained to the audience, "Well, listen, I gotta tell you something... I had been feeling chest pains, you know, and, uh, shortness of breath and all those little symptoms that you hear about."
But the TV personality is not excited about the prospect of going under the knife.
He continued, "Darn it, I don't want to do it. Nobody wants to do it, I guess. And I had a second opinion, I did all those things, and so they're all in agreement that it should be the bypass. And so that's what I'm gonna do."
Co-host Kelly Ripa lighted the mood by joking about her duties away from the camera.
She said, "My primary job will be, like it or not, get your pills ready - your sponge-bath nurse."
Philbin eagerly responded, "Why don't you give me a quick dip before I go?"
