Just days after he died, animal rights group PETA have launched an attack on the late "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin, making insensitive remarks about the Australian's work with wild animals.
Campaigners for PETA - People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals - blasted the T.V. star - who was killed September 4, aged 44, by a stingray - about his life-long work with exotic animals.
PETA spokesman Dan Mathews said, "He made his career out of antagonizing frightened wild animals, and that's a very dangerous message to send to young children."
Mathews also labeled the wildlife expert - who was buried in a private ceremony on Saturday - a "cheap reality T.V. star."
The outburst will almost certainly spark outrage among Steve's legions of fans and come as a blow to his grieving family.
Steve's widow Terri and their children, Bindi, eight, and two-year-old Bob, are expected to make their first public appearance since Steve's death at a memorial service this week.
Meanwhile, spoof videos and game versions of Steve's death have been posted on the internet - causing more grief for his family and fans.
One angry fan wrote, "These people are sick. The guy has only been dead for a few days, show some respect."

Groups like that could at least wait some time after the guy dies before they start their "unethical" attacks.

Steve Irwin and his family have contributed more to the advancement for conservation of wildlife than PETA. Steve got his message across to millions and it came to us from his heart and he touched ours while teaching us all a new respect for wildlife. The only time I've heard anything about PETA in the news, it has always derogatory. So PETA, your article doesn't shock me; you just continue, in character, to appear ignorant. You need a good lesson in ethics before you try to persued other to be ethical.

steve tought me to love animals so i'm going to be a zooligist
September 20, 2006 - 03:15PM
I love animals and i always will no dought about it
September 20, 2006 - 06:15PM
Why does PETA continually have to be so "unethical". They want people to take them seriously, but they go and do things like this. This doesn't win friends, it makes enemies. I love animals, I loved Steve Irwin's shows. I think PETA sucks at this moment, it is a sad, sad day for them....Grow up PETA.
September 20, 2006 - 10:23PM
oh by the way I have over 400 confiscated animals this year due to cruility. Theresa Murders.
September 21, 2006 - 07:59AM
How dare you say that about Steve Irwin. He did more for conservation and wildlife than PETA has ever done. He educated people about the animals and you felt like you were right there with him. He was never harmful to them. He had his daughter Bindi with him treating abrassions to one of the crocs he captured to make sure there would be no infection. You wouldn't see PETA doing that. The only things I hear about PETA are negative. PETA, this man had a wife and children who loved him dearly. Think about their feelings before you run off at the mouth. How would you feel if you lost your world? Your supposed to be an agency of compassion, I don't think so - not with comments like that. Your agency should be disbanned. You are not very well liked anyway and if your trying to improve your image, you messed up big time. Leave this family alone. Let them grieve in peace. Steve Irwin is gone and is petty of you to even bring up childish crap such as this. Try and do something productive - that is what your agency is about isn't it?

to all the people who made the sick videos joking about steves death... i think you are being led by some twisted psyco who has brainwashed you in to something you have no knowledge about. puppy mills, circuses, animal cruility, and conservation ( i know its a long word, but you can look it up on your computer )are the things you should educate yourself on and protest against. not steve irwin, dog shows, zoos, fishing, hunting, and whatever other topics that again, you have no understanding or education about. game wardens, vets, wild life rehabilitators, zoooligest, and animal psycology graduates are some of the real animal experts. if peta is behind these videos, i would have to say that they are truely bizar and twisted, and it sucks to know that there are people like you out there!
September 22, 2006 - 10:59AM
no one listens to these spupid people because they outcasted from "normal society" due to their bizar behavior and strange way of thinking. as for the videos, I think these people have spent their whole life playing video games or watching the tv. i blame their parents. they probibaly live in some big city and have never even seen a cow, much less a crocodile. all the videos prove is exactly how uneducated these people are. thank god for country livin!

I may not have millions of dollars to spend on PR campaigns, celebrity spokespeople,or even explosives to make my point when logic fails me,but at least I try to be an honest person and a good Catholic.
PETA,and it's satellite groups, such as ELF ,ALF,Greenpeace, and others, have proven themselves to be nothing short of modern-day Nazis;with their lockstep philosophies and gunbarrel politics.
I have studied these social malcontents for many years, and i invariably come to the same conclusion each time:
that these people are indeed domestic, homegrown terrorists, without doubt.
The FBI has them listed as terrorist groups and with good reason.
They have destroyed public and private property in revenge against persons and groups that oppose them.
They have invited persons in our military to commit both mutiny and treason.
They are guilty of kidnapping, arson, animal cruelty, assault and battery, incitement to riot, ignoring summons to court, maiming of other humans[branding],criminal trespass, contempt, theft, blackmail, and more.
These are not the noble 'nature warriors''that they would have us all belive them to be.
They are a rowdy,loosely-led mass of outcasts that have no other outlet for their pent-up hostilities than to attack other people, and try to enforce this alien worldview on the rest of us.
Gosd help them if they ever try even one of these things against me or mine.
I'll kill them without a second thought.

This is absolutly sickening! It may be May 2007, but me and my friends are still grieving his death and wearing black on the 4th of every month along with our "WIldlife Warrior" bracelets. PETA is a sick and twisted group that should not even dare think about harming Steve Irwins name or his family who suffered such a hard loss. PETA is a bunch of hypocrits and should not be taken seriously. Even just checking out their website makes me sick. Please, everyone write into PETA and express how you feel, thats what me and my friend are doing right now.
May Steve Irwin and his dream live on forever in our hearts, may he rest in peace.

This is the first time I have looked at this web page and just a year after his death, I am still extremely sadened when I hear people "SLAG" off this GREAT human being. He was inspiration to all ages and all races and animals LOVED him. If they where frightened of him, then they would just give him a bite or a scratch.but he respected animals and bonded with them in a way that PETA will never understand, he showed his passion in every one of his documentaries and YES he was over the top, but that is just a man to me being proud of who he is and what he had acheived and he certainly got his message across. I still cant believe he is gone, my kids and I still shed a tear when we hear his loved ones talk about the WILDLIFE WARRIORS!. My heart goes out to those close to STEVE, he will never be replaced, he truly had a heart of gold.
